Nashville Rescue Mission is actively seeking a Donor Relations Officer to join our Development team. The Donor Relations Officer leverages expertise as a collaborative member of the Development team, devising and implementing fundraising strategies in building relationships with assigned donors/prospects to secure mid-level ($1000 – $5000) gifts. Upholds the Mission Statement of Faith and Code of Conduct.
Job Responsibilities
Essential Duties:
Portfolio Management
- Maintain and actively manage a portfolio of mid-level donors, ensuring consistent and meaningful engagement.
- Apply fundraising best practices of mid-level donor segmentation and relationship development.
- Track donor interactions, giving history, and engagement preferences using CRM tools to inform strategy.
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators including retention, upgrade rates, and donor lifetime value.
Donor Acquisition and Cultivation
- Identify and qualify new mid-level donor prospects through data analysis, campaigns, and referrals.
- Collaborate with the direct response and marketing teams to design outreach strategies that attract and convert donors into the mid-level tier, including the monthly sustainer program.
- Conduct outreach via phone, email, and in-person meetings to build relationships and deepen donor commitment.
- Analyze giving trends to identify donors with potential to upgrade to major gift levels and collaborate with the major gifts team to transition qualified donors into their portfolios.
Stewardship and Engagement
- Serve as the primary point of contact for mid-level donors, providing timely acknowledgements, impact updates, and personalized communications.
- Coordinate exclusive donor experiences such as behind-the-scenes tours, mission impact briefings, and appreciation events.
- Ensure donors feel valued and connected to the mission through thoughtful stewardship touchpoints.
Collaboration and Strategy
- Partner with the annual giving, major gifts, and communications teams to align messaging and donor journeys.
- Contribute to segmentation strategies and CRM enhancements to improve donor tracking and engagement.
- Support fundraising campaigns and events that engage mid-level donors and promote increased giving.
Church Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with local churches and faith-based organizations to promote the Mission’s work and identify partnership opportunities.
- Coordinate presentations, speaking engagements, and Mission tours for congregations to increase awareness and inspire involvement.
- Collaborate with the volunteer and communications teams to develop church-specific engagement strategies, including service projects, giving campaigns, and special events.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in communications, marketing, public relations, or related discipline required or 8 years of equivalent experience with a nonprofit.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, or non-profit development or other related experience (sales, admissions, etc.)
- A working knowledge of fundraising best practices and CRM databases (Virtuous preferred).
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills and public presentation skills.
- Possesses computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Adept at data analysis and report generation.
- Ability to qualify as a designated Mission vehicle driver under NRM insurance policy:
- Valid driver’s license
- Have no more than two moving violations in a 3-year period or more than one accident in a 1-year period
- Proof of insurance on personal vehicle (current)
Physical Factors:
- Regularly include standing, walking, reaching, lifting, bending, kneeling, stooping, sitting, pushing and pulling, lifting up to 30 pounds or less, and climbing stairs.
- Regularly include typing/computer usage and speaking skills.
- Regularly include moderate reading and writing skills; proficient interpersonal relations and communicative skills; manual dexterity; auditory and visual skills; ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures.
- Driving to/from meetings with potential and existing donors.

Let us help you save for the future. Nashville Rescue Mission contributes 3% of an employee’s earnings after they have completed their first year of service. If you decide to contribute to the plan as well, you will enjoy a 50% match on contributions from 1% to 6%.
