Job Summary

The Board Chair serves as the primary leader of the Board of Directors and works closely with the Executive Director to advance the mission and long-term vision of our grassroots organization. This role guides board operations, sets meeting agendas, leads board meetings, and ensures the board is active, engaged, and accountable. The Chair supports strategic planning, helps build and strengthen community partnerships, and plays a key role in fundraising and visibility. Ideal candidates are experienced leaders with strong facilitation skills, a commitment to equity and community impact, and experience in nonprofit, education, business, or advocacy—especially in grassroots or community-based work.

Job Responsibilities

The Board Chair serves as the primary leader of the Board of Directors and works closely with the Executive Director to advance the mission and long-term vision of the organization. This role is responsible for guiding board operations, setting meeting agendas, leading board meetings, and ensuring the board is effective, engaged, and accountable. The Chair supports strategic planning, helps strengthen partnerships, and plays a key role in fundraising and community visibility. Ideal candidates are experienced leaders with strong facilitation skills, a commitment to equity and community impact, and experience in nonprofit leadership, education, business, or advocacy.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of leadership experience in nonprofit, education, business, or community work

  • Prior board service or governance experience preferred

  • Strong facilitation, communication, and conflict-resolution skills

  • Experience with strategic planning and organizational growth

  • Fundraising, partnership, or donor engagement experience

  • Strong commitment to equity, community impact, and the organization’s mission
