Job Summary

The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) provides psychiatric and medication management services to women participating in Mending Hearts’ full continuum of care, including detox, residential, and outpatient programs. This role requires advanced clinical competence in mental health assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of co-occurring disorders, along with strong clinical judgment and collaboration with medical, behavioral health, and peer support staff.

In alignment with program and grant priorities, the PMHNP supports Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) services, including psychiatric evaluation and medication management for clients receiving Vivitrol/Naltrexone and other appropriate therapies. The PMHNP plays a vital role in stabilizing mental health symptoms and supporting continuity of care as clients transition through levels of treatment and into long-term recovery.

Job Responsibilities

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive psychiatric evaluations at intake and throughout the continuum of care, including mental status examinations and diagnostic formulation
  • Develop and adjust individualized psychiatric treatment plans in collaboration with the Medical Director and behavioral health team
  • Provide psychiatric medication management, including prescribing, monitoring effectiveness, managing side effects, and educating clients on treatment
  • Support and monitor MAT services from a psychiatric perspective, ensuring alignment with treatment goals and compliance with documentation and grant requirements
  • Conduct follow-up assessments to evaluate client progress, symptom stabilization, and medication adherence
  • Collaborate with counselors, case managers, peer support staff, and external providers to support continuity of care
  • Refer clients to outside psychiatric or medical providers when higher levels of care or specialty services are needed
  • Supervise nursing and medical assistant staff as it relates to psychiatric care and medication protocols
  • Provide consultation to clinical staff regarding mental health diagnoses, symptom management, and crisis intervention strategies
  • Participate in detox and residential team coordination to support safe stabilization of clients with co-occurring disorders
  • Provide 24-hour psychiatric on-call coverage as scheduled, including consultation and recommendations for higher levels of care when clinically indicated
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant documentation of all psychiatric services in accordance with regulatory, licensing, and organizational standards
  • Participate in staff and clinical meetings as a member of the leadership team
  • Support development and refinement of psychiatric and co-occurring disorder treatment protocols under the guidance of the Medical Director
  • Ensure ethical practice and compliance with state and federal regulations, licensing requirements, and grant expectations

 

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing and ANCC certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)
  • Current Tennessee RN license and TN APN certificate with certificate of fitness to prescribe
  • DEA registration required
  • Minimum of 2 years’ clinical experience, preferably in behavioral health, addiction medicine, or psychiatric care
  • Experience with psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and co-occurring disorders
  • Experience supervising nursing staff and using electronic medical records
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in a behavioral health setting
