Position Summary

The Director of Advancement and Engagement leads the organization’s communications, community engagement, donor relations, and fundraising support efforts to strengthen organizational visibility, deepen stakeholder relationships, and support long-term sustainability. This role works collaboratively across departments to share the mission and impact of through storytelling, events, donor engagement, community partnerships, and strategic communications. The ideal candidate is relationship-driven, highly organized, creative, and comfortable working independently in a growing nonprofit environment.

Job Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

Advancement and Fundraising

  • Support fundraising initiatives through donor engagement, sponsorship outreach, communications, and relationship management
  • Assist in planning and implementing annual giving campaigns, fundraising initiatives, and donor stewardship efforts
  • Maintain donor records and engagement tracking within CRM and fundraising systems
  • Assist in identifying and cultivating community partnerships, sponsorship opportunities, and donor relationships
  • Collaborate with leadership to support organizational fundraising and advancement goals

Communications and Storytelling

  • Lead organizational storytelling and external communications efforts across digital, print, and community platforms
  • Develop and manage content for newsletters, donor communications, social media, campaigns, promotional materials, and community outreach initiatives
  • Maintain consistent organizational branding, messaging, and public presence
  • Strengthen community awareness and engagement through strategic outreach and relationship-building efforts
  • Represent Mending Hearts at community events, networking opportunities, and partnership meetings as needed

Community Engagement and Partnerships

  • Coordinate community engagement events, donor appreciation efforts, alumni engagement opportunities, and organizational outreach activities
  • Develop and lead volunteer and ambassador engagement programs
  • Assist in strengthening relationships with corporate sponsors, community partners, and supporters
  • Support collaborative outreach efforts that increase community awareness and engagement with the organization’s mission

Grants and Institutional Support

  • Support grant development efforts through research, coordination, and collection of supporting documentation as needed
  • Track, manage, and communicate grant-related records, reporting deadlines, and organizational materials
  • Collaborate with leadership and external partners to support institutional funding opportunities

Development Operations and Administration

  • Track engagement efforts, campaign outcomes, donor communications, and community partnership activity
  • Assist with maintaining advancement calendars, outreach timelines, and campaign materials
  • Support the development of systems and processes that strengthen long-term advancement and engagement efforts
  • Work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced nonprofit environment

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Collaborate with leadership, board members, volunteers, and community stakeholders to support organizational advancement initiatives
  • Participate in organizational events, meetings, and strategic initiatives as needed
  • Contribute to a positive, mission-driven culture that supports women in recovery and long-term community impact

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, nonprofit management, or related field preferred
  • Experience in nonprofit communications, community engagement, fundraising support, marketing, or related field preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences
  • Experience with social media management, content creation, and community outreach preferred
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently
  • Experience using CRM systems, donor databases, communication platforms, or fundraising software preferred
  • Ability to work collaboratively while also functioning independently in a growing organization
  • Commitment to the mission of supporting women in recovery and strengthening community partnerships

Additional Requirements

  • Occasional evening and weekend availability required for events and community engagement activities
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred
