Job Summary
This position is primarily an in-office position, located at 104 and 108 Southeast Parkway Franklin, TN. GraceWorks offers flexible scheduling, business casual office environment, and the potential for partial remote scheduling.
The Controller supports GraceWorks Ministries’ goals, values, and philosophy by exhibiting the following: excellence, quality service, commitment, and accountability. As a member of the GraceWorks Ministries’ team, the performance includes the demonstration of the following accountabilities: communication, teamwork, job knowledge, and leadership in a manner appropriate for a Christian departmental head of a faith-based organization.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Controller is a hands-on position responsible for maintaining and reporting current and accurate financial information in all areas of the ministry, in accordance with General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Job Responsibilities
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accounting & Financial Oversight
- Lead all accounting functions including general ledger management, monthly close, and financial reporting.
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
- Manage all banking relationships, cash flow, and investment activity.
Budgeting & Financial Planning

Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with the CEO and department heads.

Monitor actual performance against budget and provide variance analysis and forecasts.
- Assist in developing long-range financial strategies to support organizational sustainability.
Audit, Tax, and Compliance
- Coordinate the annual audit and 990 filing with external auditors.
- Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
- Ensure timely filing of taxes and other financial reporting obligations.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Supervise finance and accounting staff or vendors.
- Serve as a financial advisor to leadership, contributing to strategic decisions and operational effectiveness.
- Provide financial reports to the CEO, COO, Board of Directors, and Finance Committee.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required (CPA preferred).
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally with nonprofit organizations.
- Deep knowledge of nonprofit fund accounting, GAAP, and 990 compliance.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct) and Excel.
- Experience managing audits and working with external accountants and legal counsel for non-profits.
OTHER SKILLS
Strong interpersonal skills: the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of individuals; motivated, energetic self-starter with strong problem-solving skills; good judgment; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; highly comfortable with the computer; high fluency in QuickBooks, Excel, and Microsoft Suite required. Knowledge of Shopify and Salesforce is helpful. Highly developed organizational, planning, oral, and written communication skills; excellent time and self-management skills; strong sense of initiative and ability to work under pressure on multiple projects; ability to work independently and as a part of a team. Ability to negotiate contracts with a variety of accounting vendors. Strong desire for ministry service.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The position is in an office setting that involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions.
