Job Summary

The Grassroots and Legislative Affairs Manager (GLAM) leads TMA’s member legislative engagement activities, manages TMAPAC fundraising operations, and coordinates coalitions within the legislative relations area. This role requires building strong relationships with TMA members to activate grassroots advocacy and increase TMAPAC contributions while managing political action committee operations and coalition partnerships.

Job Responsibilities

TMAPAC Management & Fundraising

  • Develop and execute annual fundraising and marketing plan for TMAPAC
  • Coordinate all TMAPAC Committee operations, meetings, and reporting
  • Track donations, produce monthly reports and state filings
  • Plan and implement PAC fundraising events including annual meeting functions
  • Manage corporate donor relationships and semi-annual Corporate Donor Dinner

Member Engagement & Advocacy

  • Recruit and maintain statewide grassroots network of physician advocates
  • Coordinate Doctor of the Day program and Doctors’ Day on the Hill
  • Schedule physician legislative testimony and manage expense reimbursements
  • Attend local medical society meetings to promote PAC and provide legislative updates
  • Draft and disseminate legislative calls to action and year-end summaries

Coalition Management

  • Lead Coalition for Coordinated Care (CCC) and healthcare lobbyist group coordination
  • Develop projects requiring coordination between TMA, TMAPAC, and allied organizations
  • Facilitate collaboration with lobbyists on grassroots communications

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, communications, marketing, public relations, or related field
  • 2 years of experience in fundraising, political campaigns, or advocacy
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to create compelling marketing materials
  • Excellent relationship-building skills and comfort engaging diverse stakeholders
  • Proficiency with donor tracking systems and reporting requirements
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout Tennessee (estimated 25-30%)

Preferred:

  • Experience with political action committees or campaign finance compliance
  • Knowledge of Tennessee General Assembly operations and legislative process
  • Background in healthcare advocacy or medical association work
  • Public speaking and presentation experience
  • Familiarity with grassroots organizing strategies
