Position Description – Responsibilities and Requirements:

The Tennessee Innocence Project seeks to hire a motivated individual with an interest in the legal profession and the work being done to exonerate victims of wrongful convictions. This is a one or two-year fellowship. The Tennessee Innocence Project receives new applications for representation each week, and these requests must be thoroughly processed. The Intake Fellow will manage the application evaluation process for the Tennessee Innocence Project and assist with investigative efforts under the direction of the Legal Director.  Strong candidates for this role will be well-organized and possess a keen attention to detail and precision. This individual will have the opportunity to contribute meaningful work toward freeing the innocent in Tennessee and will receive foundational experience in criminal law along the way.  

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Carefully log, screen, and review each application for assistance
  • Organize and present evaluations of applications to the legal team with recommendations for action at each step in the process
  • Track and correspond with applicants and clients
  • Collect and analyze data on each case
  • Assist with investigative efforts for current TIP clients
  • Collect records and investigate claims of actual innocence
  • Gather evidence and organize case files
  • Assist with interviews of applicants and witnesses
  • Supporting legal staff with additional case-specific tasks

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

Location: The position is based in TIP’s Memphis, Tennessee office.
