Job Summary

The Literacy Facilitator for the Teen Author Workshop and Carnegie Kids Club at Carnegie Writers, Inc. is responsible for creating a dynamic and engaging learning environment that fosters literacy development, creative writing, and a love for reading among youth participants. This position requires a passionate, creative, and dependable individual who can inspire young writers to explore storytelling and self-expression while supporting Carnegie Writers’ literacy programming.
The Literacy Facilitator delivers engaging literacy instruction using Carnegie Writers’ curriculum and collaborates with the Program Director and Lead Literacy Facilitator to support participant success, literacy development, and creative expression.

Job Responsibilities

• Facilitate engaging literacy and creative writing sessions for participants in the Teen Author Workshop, Carnegie Kids Club, and other Carnegie Writers literacy initiatives.
• Deliver curriculum and lesson plans developed by Carnegie Writers and the Lead Literacy Facilitator.
• Foster a positive, safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where participants are encouraged to express themselves through reading and writing.
• Guide participants through the writing process by providing encouragement, constructive feedback, and individualized support.
• Lead interactive literacy activities, storytelling sessions, writing exercises, and discussions that strengthen literacy, communication, and critical thinking skills.
• Encourage a love of reading and writing by introducing participants to diverse authors, genres, and literary concepts.
• Support participants in revising and preparing their work for literary showcases, anthologies, and publication opportunities.
• Assist with participant attendance, classroom management, lesson preparation, and organization of instructional materials.
• Collaborate with the Program Director and Lead Literacy Facilitator to ensure program goals, grant objectives, and organizational expectations are achieved.
• Assist with literacy events, family engagement activities, community outreach events, and student showcases as assigned.
• Maintain professionalism and uphold the mission, vision, and values of Carnegie Writers, Inc.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Current enrollment in an associate or bachelor’s degree program in Education, English, Creative Writing, Communications, Child Development, Social Work, or a related field is preferred.
• College students pursuing a degree in a related field are encouraged to apply.
• Experience working with children or youth in educational, after-school, mentoring, tutoring, literacy, or enrichment programs preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Passion for literacy, creative writing, and youth development.
• Ability to build positive relationships with children and adolescents from diverse backgrounds.
• Strong organizational, classroom management, and facilitation skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with staff, schools, volunteers, and community partners.
• Willingness to learn and implement Carnegie Writers’ curriculum and instructional practices.
• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and safeguarding children.
