Job Summary
Position Title: Makerspace Facilitator
FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt, Part-Time
Pay Rate: $17.00/hour

POSITION OVERVIEW
Are you ready to help visitors explore the wonders of making at Adventure Science Center? You will be able to 3D print, laser cut, and solder your way into the minds and hearts of our most curious visitors in the Innovation Incubator Makerspace. Let your creativity run wild! Help our Coordinator facilitate activities for over 1,000 visitors weekly while maintaining a safe and welcoming environment. There’s nothing better than being able to come to work and PLAY – all while sharing your passion for making and innovation with ASC’s visitors.
This position is responsible for facilitating activities within the Innovation Incubator Makerspace. The primary responsibility of this role will be to focus on effectively guiding guests through crafts, activities, and workshops that take place within the space. Effective communication skills, commitment to guest experience, and a passion for learning and sharing the principles of science, technology, engineering, arts/creativity, and math are essential attributes for this position.
Work schedule is Thursday-Sunday, working 9:00 am-3:00 pm Thursday, Friday, and Monday; and working 9:00 am-5:00 pm Saturday and Sunday. Additional hours are available occasionally for special events.
Job Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate and oversee Innovation Incubator Makerspace during public hours
- Engage visitors with technology present in the space, such as 3D printers, laser cutters, robotics, and other STEM-related tech
- Work with fellow Innovation Incubator and ASC team members to develop and lead programming for public and special events
- Prep 600+ individual craft kits each week
- Curate maker activities and execute them on a large scale (600+ per week)
- Daily upkeep and cleaning of Innovation Incubator, including vacuuming, taking out trash, and wiping down tables
- Organize a multitude of different materials and parts
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
- Desire to look beyond traditional disciplines and explore interdisciplinary intersections of knowledge
- Ability to engage with guests and guide them through activities
- Desire to inspire guests of all ages with art, science, technology, and the power of making things
- Ability to operate and maintain a 3D printer
- Troubleshoot problems with prints
- Find and slice STL files for print
- Ability to operate and maintain a laser cutter
- Desired software skills: CAD, Adobe Illustrator, MS Office
- Basic computer skills and the ability to figure out not-often-used software
- Finds enjoyment in making. Whether it be visual art, audio, paper-craft, or electronic inventions
- Talent in chalk sign art preferred
- Exhibits the following qualities: patient, hardworking, problem-solving, resiliency
- Ability to speak or sign an additional language is preferred, but not required
- High school diploma required
- Candidates with completed college coursework will be given preference
- Experience facilitating hands-on science or technology programs is preferred
- Experience working with youth and families is preferred
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
- Professional appearance and demeanor required
- Ability to work up to 30 hours per week, weekends, and some evenings required
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Availability to work peak days and hours, a combination of weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
- First Aid/CPR/AED (Adult and/or Pediatric) certification preferred
- The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations.
- Typically, walking, standing, bending, and carrying light items (up to 20 pounds unassisted), and 50 pounds assisted are required. At times, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. Also, the employee must have manual dexterity, visual and auditory acuity.
- Some repetitive motion is involved.
