Job Summary
The Rutherford County Speak Up and Be Safe Education Coordinator is responsible for the implementation of Speak Up Be Safe Program. The Coordinator utilizes the Speak Up Be Safe curriculum to educate children and youth about how to recognize, prevent and report abuse and neglect in a developmentally appropriate way. The Coordnator works as a team with the Community Education Coordinator, Accountant, and Executive Director to fulfill the goals and objectives of the Child Advocacy Center .
Job Responsibilities
Community Education
- Development and implementation of the Speak Up Be Safe Program in Rutherford County
- Provide Speak Up Be Safe program to children and youth
- Network with other organizations sharing information on the Speak Up Be Safe Program
- Recruit families to provide Speak Up Be Safe services to Networking
Networking
- Network with other organizations sharing information on the Speak Up Be Safe program
Public Relations, Media, and Marketing
- Submit press releases to the media about Speak Up Be Safe Program
- Respond to radio and television requests about the Speak Up Be Safe Program
- Utilize social media to promote the Speak Up Be Safe Program
- Develop content for the CAC newsletter about the Speak Up Be Safe Program
- Develop content for the CAC website about the Speak Up Be Safe Program
- Develop a Speak Up Be Safe Program brochure
Volunteer Coordination
- Interview, screen, train, supervise, and evaluate student interns for the Speak Up Be Safe Program
Evaluation
- Survey children and youth to assess the effectiveness of the Speak Up Be Safe program
Reporting
- Compile community education statistical reports for funding sources, Board of Directors, CBCAP Grant, and Speak Up Be Safe
Supervision
- Attend regular supervision meetings, staff meetings, in-service training, and other meetings and training as requested
- Follow Child Advocacy Center policies and procedures • Other duties as assigned in a timely manner
- Reports directly to their supervisors, the Community Education Coordinator
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Social work, public speaking, and teaching skills
- Writing, public relations, media, and marketing skills
- Working knowledge of the dynamics of child abuse and neglect, child sexual abuse, drug endangered children, domestic violence, substance abuse, parent-child interaction, child development
- Working knowledge of community resources and ability to use appropriately to meet individual’s needs
- Ability to effectively monitor client interaction
- Communication and problem-solving skills
- Organizational skills to independently manage workload and related responsibilities
- Ability to function under pressure in crisis situations
- Ability to work with diverse populations
- Ability to work effectively with employees from other agencies and community groups
- Ability to work in a team environment where multiple players contribute to problem solving
- Ability to read, write, and speak English (Spanish speaking ability is an asset.)
- Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form
- Ability to operate a computer/ laptop
- Must have reliable transportation with current Tennessee driver’s license, automobile insurance, and safe driving record
Education and Experience
- B.S. or B.A. in Social Work, Child Development, or related field required
- Social work experience or related field is preferred
- Demonstrated maturity and experience
Special Requirements
- Must pass a check of the following: TBI background, FBI finger print background, Department of Children’s Services records, motor vehicle background, sex offender registry, drug offender registry, felony offender registry, and Department of Health abuse registry
- Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel in Rutherford and Cannon Counties to work
