Job Summary

Position Summary:

As the Site Director for our Before & After School program, you’ll lead daily activities, manage lesson plans, and oversee site staff—all while making sure kids are safe, supported, and having fun. You’ll build positive relationships with school and YMCA staff and help kids grow socially, physically, mentally, and spiritually. This role reports to the Area Director and follows YMCA and DHS guidelines.

Job Responsibilities

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Lead by example and live out the Y’s core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility
  • Follow YMCA and DHS policies, including conducting site inspections
  • Plan and run fun, engaging daily activities based on YMCA guidelines; keep up with lesson plans, calendars, rosters, and daily records
  • Actively lead a group of 15–20 kids in activities and transitions, both indoors and out
  • Set up and clean up program spaces to keep things safe, organized, and kid-friendly
  • Supervise and support site staff—help with scheduling, timesheets, and staff development
  • Attend all team meetings and required trainings
  • Keep open, clear communication with parents—host conferences and support a parent advisory board twice a year
  • Maintain participant files and handle fee collection to keep things up to date
  • Manage site supplies and snacks
  • Support YMCA volunteer efforts and our Annual Giving Campaign
  • Help out with special projects and admin tasks as needed

Qualifications

  • Strong communicator who handles pressure well, stays organized, and keeps things confidential
  • Professional, solution-oriented, and takes initiative
  • Able to speak and understand English
  • Flexible schedule—including evenings and weekends
  • At least 21 years old

Education & Experience:
You’ll need one of the following:

  • High school diploma (or equivalent) plus 4 years full-time experience with kids in a group setting and 30 hours of TECTA (can be completed after hire)
  • OR a bachelor’s degree and 1 year full-time experience with kids in a group setting
  • OR 36 college credit hours in a related field or a recognized credential (TECTA or CDA) plus 2 years full-time experience with kids

Certifications & Paperwork:
Before your first shift:

  • New hire orientation
  • DHS background check, fingerprinting, and abuse registry clearance
  • Physical health form & proof of education
  • Completed references and employment history
  • Required DHS trainings

Within 30 days:

  • CPR, First Aid & AED (Infant/Pediatric)

Within 6 months:

  • Adult Mental Health First Aid certification

You’ll also need to keep up with annual training requirements.
