Job Summary
JOB DESCRIPTION
Launch Pad Shelter Advocates provide a year-round, welcoming, trauma-informed environment for young adults (we are LGBTQ+ affirming) experiencing homelessness. They oversee the Mobile Housing Navigation Center program including the building, providing guest services for residents, and completing necessary shift reports. This role specifically will work on Saturdays and Sundays from 3-11pm. At times, when needed, they may be asked to assist with our other programs.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS
Mobile Housing Navigation Center – Single grant funded, this 24/7 year-round program offers staffed transitional housing and resource navigation for up to 12 young adults, ages 18-24. Must be experiencing literal homelessness and referred from the city’s Homelessness Management Information System (HMIS).
Emergency Shelter – Seasonal overnight program operating November 1 through April 1 each year. Capacity of about 20 young adults each night, ages 18-26, in partnership with local churches. Hot meal, shower, mattress, linens, first aid, and additional supplies provided.
Independent Supported Living Program – Transitional housing for ages 18-26. Up to three guests share a 3 bedroom apartment, free of charge for up to 6 months while working to stabilize and establish permanent housing. Highly independent program requiring residents to live in a self-sufficient manner providing their own food, transportation, and case management
Job Responsibilities
Guest Services
- Monitor the MHNC residents and perform regular walking checks of the building
- Assist guests with any interpersonal conflicts or disputes
- Check in with residents about completion of Community Care Tasks
- Help residents work towards completing goals to succeed after the program
Site Maintenance
- Clean, sanitize, and organize the space regularly
- Complete cleaning checklists (daily, weekly, and monthly as required)
- Report any major maintenance concerns to the Program Director
Informational Reporting
- Write a brief report at the end of each shift
- Document client interactions and crisis interventions into database
Physical Demands
- Shelter sites may require climbing stairs to enter
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs (though a team approach may be taken for heavy lifting)
- Remaining awake and alert for entire shift
Additional Responsibilities
- Staff may be cross trained across programs – Shelter Advocates may be asked to cover shifts in our Emergency Shelter program as needed.
- Communicate with other Launch Pad staff about residents as needed
- Engage with interns and volunteers as needed
Training
- Paid training is provided. This includes, but is not limited to, CPR & First Aid, Naloxone, Trauma Informed Care, De-escalation, and Nashville Launch Pad Volunteer Training.
Qualifications
- Experience working with vulnerable populations, especially 18-24 year olds or people experiencing homelessness, is preferred
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, take initiative, and manage conflict
- Be culturally sensitive, team focused, and collaborative
- Be a competent professional with excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Be a team player with strong decision-making skills
- Strong sense of boundaries to keep relationships with guests professional, safe, and healthy
- Ability to clearly and objectively document information
- Ability to use a computer
- LGBTQ+ individuals, people of color, and people with lived experience of housing instability strongly encouraged to apply
- A background check and drug screen is required for this position; cost covered by Nashville Launch Pad
