Job Summary
Thistle Farms is seeking a strategic and mission-driven Vice President of Finance and Operations to provide visionary leadership and day-to-day management across the organization’s financial systems and enterprise operational infrastructure. This role oversees a diverse team spanning Finance, Enterprise Operations, Customer Support, IT and Facilities, ensuring that each area runs efficiently, sustainably, and in alignment with Thistle Farms’ mission and values. The ideal candidate will be both a strategic thinker, coach, and hands-on leader, skilled at working across nonprofit and social enterprise contexts to advance organizational goals with financial discipline, operational excellence, and compassion.
Job Responsibilities
Supervisory Responsibilities:
•Oversee the daily workflow of Enterprise Operations & Finance departments, which includes café, manufacturing and logistics, IT, facilities, finance, customer support, and research & development.
•Directly manages Executive Chef and General Manager of the Café, Director of Body & Home, Director of Research & Development, Director of IT & Facilities, Director of Customer Support, the Controller and Finance Team.
•Serves as a coach and mentor to direct reports, organizational leaders and community; provides constructive and timely performance coaching, feedback and evaluations.
•Handles onboarding, discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
•Manages the budget, approves expenses, mileage and time off requests within department.
Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Financial Leadership & Strategy
•Serve as the senior financial executive, overseeing budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, financial analysis and reporting, and long-term financial planning.
•Lead annual budgeting and long term strategic and capital planning processes in collaboration with the CEO and department heads.
•Ensure financial systems and policies are robust, transparent, and aligned with best practices for both nonprofit and enterprise operations.
•Ensure accuracy and compliance in all accounting, audit, tax, and regulatory functions.
•Develop and monitor key financial KPIs and sustainability strategies across the organization.
•Provide timely, transparent reporting and strategic counsel to the CEO, Board Finance Committee, and executive team.
2. Operations Oversight
•Oversee enterprise operations, including the café, manufacturing, supply chain, inventory, fulfillment and customer support.
•Partner with enterprise leadership to develop performance metrics and drive continuous improvement across the value chain.
•Lead operational performance planning and cost management in alignment with growth goals.
•Direct Customer Support operations, ensuring compassionate, timely service across call center, enterprise customers, and residential referrals.
•Oversee Facilities Management to maintain safe, efficient, and mission-aligned physical spaces across all Thistle Farms sites.
•Provide oversight to the IT function, ensuring systems support data integrity, operational efficiency, and security across departments.
•Ensure systems and teams operate with excellence while creating meaningful job opportunities for survivor-leaders.
3. Team Leadership & Culture
•Lead and mentor direct reports across finance, enterprise operations, customer support, IT, and facilities teams.
•Promote a trauma-informed, collaborative, and inclusive leadership style aligned with Thistle Farms’ mission and values.
•Create development opportunities for survivor-leaders and staff across operational departments.
•Foster cross-departmental communication and cohesion in support of strategic goals and a unified culture.
4. Compliance, Risk Management & Systems Development
•Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local compliance requirements, including nonprofit financial reporting and employment regulations.
•Maintain internal controls and oversee external audits and annual filings (e.g., 990).
•Identify and mitigate organizational risks related to financial systems, technology, and facilities.
•Ensure all operational functions adhere to legal, regulatory, and ethical standards.
•Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of senior leadership in finance and operations within a for profit or nonprofit, mission-driven social enterprise.
- Demonstrated experience managing cross-functional teams.
- Expertise in finance and systems-level thinking.
- Strong command of GAAP, financial compliance, and budgeting processes.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to collaborate across diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP), CRM, accounting, and customer service systems preferred.

Physical Requirements:
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
