Job Summary
Legal Aid Society has an immediate opening for a Project Coordinator in its Nashville office. This position will support the work of the Volunteer Lawyers Program across the 48-county service area. This position involves coordinating legal clinics, managing intakes, recruiting volunteers, and overseeing grant compliance. The Project Coordinator will work closely with attorneys, volunteers, and community organizations, ensuring effective legal assistance for low-income individuals. The role offers a flexible 40-hour workweek, with a mix of days, evenings, and weekends. The Project Coordinator will be supervised by the Director of the Volunteer Lawyers Program. This position is funded in part by and in collaboration with one or more grants. This position is funded for the duration of the grant and subsequent renewal may result in modification of job duties and responsibilities.
Job Responsibilities
Coordinate and oversee 6-8 legal advice clinics monthly, including 2 Saturday mornings.
Manage the daily intake process for potential clients of the Volunteer Lawyers Program, conducting intakes personally and supervising volunteers and administrative staff involved in the intake process.
Communicate with law firms, local attorneys, and other legal professionals to staff Legal Aid clinics with volunteers.
Create and maintain positive working relationships with organizations in the service area and state that support the needs of our client population.
Maintain files in an orderly and accurate fashion, adhering to company policies and guidelines.
Attend weekly case reviews to discuss and review cases for potential clients.
Following clinics, enter data on clinic files and refer clients to appropriate resources.
Assist with creating outreach materials for potential clients and volunteers, including legal information brochures, educational materials for firms, and clinic flyers.
Attend meetings in the community and plan outreach events to educate the client population about Legal Aid’s services.
Qualifications
Associate’s degree or 2+ years of relevant experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
2 years prior experience working in a law office, court, social service agency, or other relevant setting. Project management experience.
Experience working with low-income people.
Basic proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel software.
Effective oral and written communication skills, including in client interviews and helping people in crisis. Proficiency in the use of office equipment (copiers, scanners, facsimile, postage machine, etc.).
Fluency in written and spoken Spanish is preferred.
