Jonathan’s Path is a recognized leader in supporting teens in foster care and those transitioning to independent living. In 2024, we were honored with the Governor’s Excellence Award for Non-Profits in Middle Tennessee, reflecting our commitment to transforming lives. Our current office is in Franklin, TN, with plans to expand to a secondary location in Murfreesboro, TN, in late 2025.

Position Overview
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Business Development is a key leadership role responsible for creating and executing a comprehensive development strategy. This position will lead all fundraising initiatives, major gift cultivation, sponsorship efforts, and strategic partnerships to sustain and grow Jonathan’s Path’s mission and programs. The VP will manage development staff, work closely with the board, and serve as a public ambassador for the organization.

Job Responsibilities

Fundraising Strategy & Execution

  • Develop and implement a multi-year fundraising strategy that includes major gifts, individual giving, corporate sponsorships, foundation grants, and special events.
  • Establish measurable goals for revenue growth and track performance against targets.
  • Lead the planning and execution of the organization’s signature fundraising event, Bright Soles Bash.
  • Oversee the donor lifecycle, ensuring a personalized and strategic approach to acquisition, stewardship, and retention.

 

Major Donor & Corporate Partnerships

  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit major donors and corporate sponsors in collaboration with the Executive Director and Board.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with philanthropic partners, aligning their interests with Jonathan’s Path’s strategic priorities.
  • Represent Jonathan’s Path in donor meetings, speaking engagements, and community events.

 

Grants & Institutional Support

  • Work closely with internal staff and external grant writers to identify funding opportunities, develop proposals, and ensure compliance with grant reporting requirements.
  • Deliver programmatic metrics and impact data required for funder reporting.
  • Maintain a master grants calendar and ensure timely submissions and reporting.

 

Development Operations

  • Oversee the development database and ensure accurate donor records and timely acknowledgments.
  • Create and manage the annual development budget in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Finance Team to ensure alignment between revenue forecasting and organizational budgeting.

Leadership & Communication

  • Supervise and mentor any development team members, volunteers, or interns.
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors to support their fundraising efforts and engagement.
  • Contribute to organizational planning and strategic development as a member of the senior leadership team.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, or related field.
  • Preferred: Experience with youth-serving organizations or child welfare.
  • Required: Demonstrated success in major gift cultivation and closing gifts of $10,000+
  • Strong understanding of fundraising best practices and donor stewardship principles.
  • Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Public speaking experience with the ability to present compellingly to diverse audiences.
  • Proficient in development software (e.g., Salesforce, Microsoft Word, Canva, etc).
  • High level of integrity, initiative, and professionalism.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel within Middle Tennessee.
  • Must pass a background check and drug screening.
